Tbilisi – Day 4

homer, September 4, 2026September 4, 2026

I did laundry this morning on the Russian washing machine. No matter what I select, it takes 2 hours to do laundry for some reason. I guess all loads are treated equally under Russian design. It works great when you start laundry at 8 am because by 10 am, the laundry is done and Tbilisi stores and restaurants start thinking about waking up.

I ended up starting the day at the Art Palace, which was not my intent, but when you have all the time in the world, it doesn’t really matter if you get lost and end up somewhere else.

This Art Palace isn’t that big but it does have some good art within….

It may be my imagination but many of the images seem to have a sad somber mood to them.

It’s always interesting to see how wealthy people lived in the past. The attire, the dishes, tables, chairs, rugs, draping, furniture and more.

And then documenting it all within art.

The next stop was the Bridge of Peace.

And on my way to the Meidan Bazar, I came across “Safe Club” so I’m assuming it’s pretty safe….

And then the Bazar. I had high hopes for this place and while I was able to buy some spices, they didn’t have what I was seeking in my Bazar run.

It’s a cool place though…

After the Bazar, I went to lunch and there was a film crew shooting some commercial/show/movie about sports. To the left is the big grocery store and to the right is my apartment. Yes, I had to go around the block for these clowns….the nerve!

In the evening I had a traditional Gregorian Dinner and Dance show. The food was great, the dancing was ok, I got spoiled with the Albanian Nights show which offered an in depth look at Albanian ceremonies while these guys just danced for a few minutes using different costumes.

The more interesting thing from the evening were the beans served. I could swear these beans were flown in from Mexico. They tasted almost exactly as Frijoles a la charro. The obvious question is who copied who?

And the last tidbit from Tbilisi is this….I got to the dinner show early because the traffic here is horrendous. I ended up chatting with the guide for the show. I asked why there were so many apartment buildings and condos going up. She said she wasn’t sure because regular Georgians can’t afford them. There are high rises being built everywhere and there are billboards advertising them.
