Tbilisi – Day 3

homer, September 3, 2026

Like Albania, Tbilisi has a large number of free range dogs hanging around all over the city. As I sat down for breakfast this morning, the dogs decided to swing by. I haven’t had any issues with dogs but both in Albania and Tbilisi I have seen dogs randomly become aggressive toward some people. I have also seen free range dogs engage with walked dogs and it’s never a good experience.

Most of the time, the dogs just lay in the middle of the street or path.

I now get to walk by this park most of the time and this time I went through the southern end and met this huge statue. You can’t tell how large it is because I am about 10 feet in front of it but it still towers over me.

I used my MetroMoney card and hopped on the bus to go visit the Mother of Georgia and other sites. Drove by the peace bridge in image below.

This is Metekhi Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in the background.

Inside the church.

Looking up.

I bypassed this long line by having the right card, the WHITE metro card, NOT the blue one suckers!

This is what you want to be a real Georgian.

The card above gets you access to the gondola that takes you up to the Mother.

And what a spectacular view!

And there she is!

Past the Mother, is the botanical gardens. It runs from the top of the mountain to the bottom. Going down is easy, coming up is not.

Mother in the distance and waterfall below bridge.

After the grueling hike, it was time to hit the Sulfur Baths.

It smells of sulfur and the water is very hot. I couldn’t stay more than 6 to 7 minutes before I had to get out and take a cold shower.

But there is some therapeutic thing going on with this water, the heat and the human body.

Had the massage and scrub, won’t be doing that again.
