Riga – Day 2

homer, July 23, 2026July 23, 2026

The most annoying thing about the Baltic States is that nothing opens until 10 a.m. and this includes the majority of restaurants. McDonalds is the lone exception as it opens early. Of course, it was packed with people since this is one of the very few places open. Nothing fancy, just coffee and breakfast meal to start the day.

After McDonalds, we walked across the street to the Esplanade park. It’s an amazing park with blooming flowers, a river running through it and sheer peaceful quiet.

The most unknown and under rated museum is in Riga, Latvia and it’s called the Latvia National Art Museum.

After our visit to the Latvian Museum, we went to a lesser known place called Museum LV which had some interesting works from around the world. This place holds an annual contests for artists from around the world.

At 1 pm, we had a tasting tour near the Swedish Gate (pictured below).

Our food tour took us to the famous Riga Central Market. First stop was beer tasting.

Cheese tasting

Bread and ham tasting

Lunch took us to a place called Gastro Pub Abbey.

I had a Cobb salad. Ok, nothing to detail here.

We walked back to our hotel and stopped by the Black Heads building.

Since it was close to closing time, we decided to wait till tomorrow to go in.

We had dinner at a Nepalese restaurant then bid our fellow companion traveler farewell.
