Shkoder – Day 2 homer, August 8, 2026 Started the day at Site of Witness and Memory. A museum dedicated to remember the horrors of communism the past century. It is a unique building with symbolic hallways. I did not know Mother Theresa was originally Albanian. There are photos of people executed by the communist regime in Albania. Many were priests, clerics or other religious leaders as the communists attempted to abolish all religion in the region. These are the prisons, they are small, dark and depressing. This is the top floor of the prisons, there are all the same simple 8×8 square block rooms. Some of the prisons are decorated with remembrances of people who died in them. Both of these images were clergy from a Catholic church. The image below is of a priest who died in prison but refusing to give in to atheism. He writes he hopes all atheism perishes. I didn’t do much after the museum, it is hot, so I went for a walk in the shaded area of old town, had an ice cream and took photos of all the stray dogs in the area. Someone needs to do something about all these big dogs roaming free. I saw a few of them form up packs and start following tourists around. I hope they are all vaccinated against rabies. Shkoder 2026
