Tallinn – Day 2

We started the day a bit slower. This is our second day in Tallinn but our 5 day of non-stop action.

Our first stop was Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

On our way back from the Cathedral we stopped at the Niguliste Museum. Towering arches, giant steel pipe organs and an elevator to the tower!

Lots of history in this church.

We took the elevator up to the tower which was way better than the Olaf church where we had to climb 232 steep narrow stone stairs to get to the top!

We had a cooking class at 11 a.m. It was a great class, we got to meet a great host and others in the classroom.

After the cooking class it was the Tallinna Linnaelumuuseum.

Lots of loot down steep stairs into the dungeons below.

After the museum, we went to the KGB Prison Cells. Not much to see cell wise but the history is sad, depressing and a reminder of the wrong turns societies can make when they let their guard down.

Nearby the KGB prison there was the Saint Olaf’s Church which is famous for its 232 steps to the tower. We weren’t sure if we wanted to do the climb but you only live once.

If I could do the day over, I’d skip the climbing of the stairs. The tower view wasn’t as good as Niguliste Museum and it was cold, windy and I only took three pictures because I was worried my phone would get blown away with the gusts of wind.

The tower also has a very narrow walkway. Essentially, large overweight people should NOT attempt to climb the stairs. Anyone with knee, hip, feet mobility issues should NOT attempt to climb this tower. There are no warning signs below to caution people so we’re telling you not to do it. Go to Niguliste Museum and use the elevator!

Dinner was at a place called Olde Estonia. We had bread bowls!

And for desert, just a little ice cream in a scenic old town.
