Tbilisi – Day 13

Today’s day trip took me to Diamond Bridge. It’s a 100% tourist site but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun or cool.

There is a “diamond” hung at the center of this bridge which houses spectacular views of the canon below.

It does look like a diamond or UFO, you decide.

And once you are on it, the canyon below looks great.

I then took a walk down to the bottom of the canyon to see a waterfall. The step section was easy, once you get off of it, the incline is steep in many places.

This is a rest stop toward the bottom, it is also the place a 4×4 will bring you down and/or take you back up. I opted to pay the $6 to ride back up rather than walk, was NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! At the 4×4 stop there were many people waiting to get back up. The Georgian driver that came down, picked up the Georgians first, despite the fact others had been waiting longer. There was a large Indian family that complained to the driver that they had been waiting longer but he shrugged them off and took off. The next group, middle eastern, got into an argument with the same driver over the number of valid tickets for the fare up. He shrugged them off and took another group. The third time, everyone got in and went back up. This is the second incident of disparate treatment I’ve seen in Georgia in rural areas.

It was a three hour drive here and three hour drive back.

Our last stop was the park on top of the mountain. I opted to stay here rather than ride the bus back down as it would have been faster to take the gondola rather than sit in traffic.
